A 10-member Bangladesh contingent will leave here for Madrid Saturday evening to take part in the World Youth Archery Championship, scheduled to be held from August 19-25.
The Bangladesh contingent comprises coaches Frederick Martin and Ziaul Haque, recurve team members Shamimul Islam, Hakim Ahmed Rubel, Sakib Molla and Mehnaz Aktar Muneera, compound archer Oishorjo Rahman and cadets Prodipto Chakma, Eti Khatun and Diya Siddiqui.
This is the first time in history Bangladesh will participate in the World Youth Championship.
And on the eve of their departure, coach Ziaul said, “If we take into account the scores of the previous championship, our recurve team are not that far behind. If the team members can replicate their practice scores in the main event, then we can certainly hope for a good position.
“All the members are young and talented. The experience in Madrid will help them in their career. The young Bangladesh archers will go to Madrid with an eye on next year’s Youth Olympics. Therefore, the Madrid Championship is really important.”
