Abt Electronics, the major independently-owned, single-position retailer of electronics, appliances, and home goods found in the country debuted a larger recycling center, becoming more efficient in its waste management and expanding its determination to sustainability.

Abt constructed its initial onsite, 12,000-square-foot recycling center in 2008. The brand new recycling center, practically 3 x larger, features state-of-the-art devices including a GreenMax equipment for recycling Styrofoam. The device melts Styrofoam into recycleables used for picture frames, home construction components, and more. The guts also offers an Auger Compactor, a heavy-duty machine made for compacting large volumes of spend.

“This was a substantial, but important investment for the company,” said Mike Abt, co-president of Abt Consumer electronics. “We are focused on expanding our green method as the business continues to grow. Among our core values has always been to make a more sustainable environment for future generations.”

Abt Consumer electronics recycles 95 percent of its own waste - including cardboard, plastic material, wood pallets, and packing products in which merchandise is shipped found in. Every year, Abt’s recycling attempts save 2.2 million pounds of cardboard and paper likely to the local dump, over 350,000 pounds of Styrofoam, over 13 million pounds of home appliances, and 1.4 million pounds of electronics from likely to landfills.

In addition, Abt also accepts broken or undesired electronics and appliances from their customers and the general public. There is definitely no payment to drop off undesired items, regardless of their size. The just exception are TVs, as they contain hazardous chemical compounds and must be properly recycled. Abt costs a nominal cost for TVs to send them to a third-party facility that comes after EPA standards in e-waste recycling. The picture tubes from it units get recycled into kitchen backsplash tiles.
