Oman has announced holidays to mark the occasion of its 49th National Day for the public and private sectors on Wednesday, November 27 to Thursday, November 28, with work resuming on Sunday, December 1. For those looking to get into the festive spirit, there’s a number of events, activities and offers to look forward to:

Fireworks in Muscat and Salalah
Oman traditionally celebrates its National Day with a series of fireworks across the country. This year, Oman residents can watch fireworks in three locations – Al Seeb near Al Khoudh Dam, near the Amerat Dam in Muscat and Sahel Ittin, Salalah. The fireworks will begin at 8pm.

Special gifts
Abu Dhabi International Airport will be celebrating Oman National Day by treating all passengers travelling between Abu Dhabi and Muscat with complimentary gifts. Etihad Airways, Oman Air and Salaam Air passengers booked on services between Abu Dhabi and the Omani capital can expect Oman-themed pin badges and scarves as well as refreshments in departures and arrivals. There’s nothing quite like Arabic coffee and Omani hallway to mark the occasion.

Hotel stays
Those wanting to unwind during the long weekend will be glad to know that Kempinski Hotel Muscat, in Al Mouj, has a GCC National Holiday Residents offer that gives GCC residents 49 per cent off on the best available rate across all room categories. The offer is valid until Tuesday, December 31, and is subject to availability (and excluding black-out dates).

Food festivals
The third edition of Food Festival – Muscat Eat is here to delight Oman’s foodies. From Thursday, November 28 to Saturday, November 30, a food truck festival and pop up street stalls will be set up at Al Mouj Golf course. It’s a chance to learn more about (and sample) international delicacies as well as traditional Omani cuisine.
