Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Stocks yesterday closed the session of the week with downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.
The falling major sectors were engineering, food and allied ceramics and IT. A total of 199 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 96.95 points down at 5,033.75.
The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 18.65 points down at 1,157.49 and with 30.16 points down at 1,799.42.
The daily trade rose to 14.86 crore shares from Thursday’s 14.21 crore shares. But, the day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Tk 368.64 crore from Tk 395.30 crore of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 352 securities, prices of 61 securities closed higher against 273 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were VAMLRBBF, Continental Insurance, SEMLIBBLSF, SEMLFBSLGF and VAMLBDMF1. The major losing companies were Aziz Pipes, Emerald Oil, Kay & Que, FUWANGCER and Intech.
Fortune topped the turnover list followed by UPGDCL, Federal Insurance and JMISMDL.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 309.26 points down at 15,415.46.
At CSE, 248 issues were traded. Of those, 42 closed higher and 231 closed lower when 79.30 lakh shares worth Taka 17.10 crore changed hands.
