Shahriar demands exclusion of Bangladesh from UK travel ban list

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Alam has urged Britain to exclude Bangladesh from the set of countries that was ready to restrict entry of travellers to combat outbreak of coronavirus.

The state minister made the call during a virtual ending up in Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, British State Minister for Foreign Affairs for South Asia, recently, according to a news release issued by the foreign ministry on Wednesday.

Shahriar Alam briefed his UK counterpart about the recent visit to Bangladesh by the united states Special Presidential Envoy on Climate John Kerry.

He invited Lord Ahmad to visit Bangladesh through the Mujib Year, also regarding the the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and the UK.

Both state ministers exchanged views on Rohingya crisis.

They discussed the current impasse over their voluntary repatriation to Myanmar and their partial relocation to Bhashan Char.

Lord Ahmad assured his Bangladesh counterpart of the UK’s continued support on the question of the Rohingya’s safe and dignified go back to Myanmar.

Both Ministers also discussed preparations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) likely to be held physically in June 2021 in Kigali, Rwanda.

At the outset, State Minister Alam expressed deep condolences at the demise of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and consort of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II.
