The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) now allows brokerage houses to set up their branch offices in any area within the two city corporations of Dhaka.
Previously, the brokerage houses could open extension office only within two km radius of the country’s two stock exchanges.
The BSEC made the decision at a recent meeting presided over by its chairman M Khairul Hossain.
The decision came as the headquarters of the country’s premier bourse Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) shifted to Nikunja from Motijheel.
Although a large number of DSE brokers moved to the new DSE building, some still kept their offices in Motijheel.
To address the situation, DSE requested the securities regulator to relax the extension office rule.
