Mustafa Jabbar: Chittagong to be centre of digital trade
Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar on Monday said that Port City Chittagong will be the centre of the country's digital trade and commerce in the future.
The minister came up with the remarks while attending an event where Chittagong City Corporation and High tech Park authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at city corporation office.
The MoU was signed to establish Sheikh Kamal IT Training & Incubation Center and IT park at district level.
"An economic zone has been set up at Mirsharai. The whole world is connected with Chattogram via its sea port which Dhaka don't has. So Chittagong will be the centre of digital trade and commerce. Bangladesh is going through transformations," he said.
Given its geological position, development of Chittagong means progress of Bangladesh, he said.
State Minister for Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak who was also present at the programme, said currently a total of 10 crore people in the country use internet.
So far 9,000 Sheikh Russel digital labs (computer labs at educational institutions) have been established and 25,500 more labs will be set up across the country, he said.
