If Peru’s famous Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail was on your immediate travel bucket list, hold it for now. Currently, Peru is going through political unrest, and the country has indefinitely suspended all tourism related activities in Machu Picchu. The popular Inca Trail is affected as well.

The decision was made in order to protect the safety of tourists and the locals in general.
If reports are to go by, more than 400 local and international tourists were stuck in these popular sites recently. Some of them even chose to walk to the nearest village of Piscacucho, and that’s around six to seven hours of walking.

Cusco city, home to the famous Machu Picchu, is one of the most affected areas as of now, and steering clear of it is the only wise thing to do. As per the reports, tourists who have already booked their tickets for Machu Picchu, will get their full refund.

All train services to Machu Picchu are also suspended.
The 15th century UNESCO World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The capital city of Lima is definitely off limits for visitors, and so are the rest of the Andean regions.

What will you be missing?
The Inca Trail, one of the most beautiful, difficult and greatest hikes in the world. The Inca trail takes you on an epic hike to the lost city of Machu Picchu through one of the most stunning landscapes in the world – the snow-covered Andes Mountains on one side, and the deep Amazon forest on the other.
